There was a barber and his wife and she was beautiful... a foolish barber and his wife. She was his reason for his life... and she was beautiful, and she was virtuous. And he was naive. There was another man who saw that she was beautiful... A biased vulture of the law who, with a gesture of his claw removed the barber from his plate! And there was nothing but to wait! And she would fall! So soft! So young! So lost and oh so beautiful!
I had to draw this scene because it was very moving. Poor Sweeney with his dead wife, and Lovett feeling guilty for lying. Oh so sad!
But I don't think Lovett really felt guilty at all.
When she's singing, she says things like
"No I never lied, said she took the poison she did, never said that she died."
About how like Sweeney was better off thinking she was dead, she'd be twice the wife Lucy was, all that. Kinda what made me hate her. Even though I love her. But still. I'd like to kill her myself!
